Within Arm’s Reach

Unorganized people spend a lot of time chasing down lost items. We waste valuable time searching for anything from keys and cell phones to clothing and important files. This causes a lot of stress and is a loss of valuable time. To effectively move about our daily life, it is important that the items we need most often are the most accessible. This is appropriate in our homes and in our offices.

If you use something every day, be sure it is easily accessible – within arm’s reach. Consider your daily routine and devise systems that support you. If you use your paper clips, a stapler, and a tape dispenser every day, they should be within arm’s reach, not tucked away in a drawer or a cabinet across the room. If you use your coffee pot every day, leaving it on the countertop is very effective. These are just a couple of simple ways to create a supportive and effective environment that supports you throughout the day.

Be sure that there is a place for everything and that everything is in its place. It may take you a few extra minutes each day, but it will save you hours of time and untold frustration in the future. This simple methodology divides the highly effective person from the stressed out and frantic time waster.
