Storage containers are great. HOWEVER, they can be detrimental to really being organized. As a professional organizer, I find that it is not unusual to find storage bins used to just delay making decisions about what to keep, what to toss, and what to donate to others. Clear storage containers are FABULOUS for seasonal items, such as holiday decorations and winter or summer clothes and shoes. They are also great for baby clothes, if more babies are planned. They’re great for children’s shoes, crafts, and schoolwork. With that said, they should only contain items that use the like-with-like philosophy, meaning do not dump miscellaneous stuff in them and label the bin MISCELLANEOUS.

Be intentional about:
1.)   What you have,
2.)   What you need, and
3.)   What you store in your space.

Giving up square footage for things you do not love, want, or need or paying storage fees on “treasures” that you never use or even know that you have makes no sense. Note: Storage units should only be used as a temporary solution, such as when in between homes.
