Boomerang Generation with a Twist…Parents Moving In

Say what?

Guess who’s coming home…

The easiest way to prepare for parents moving in

Until recently, homebuyers didn’t purchase with the idea of having Mom and Dad as residents. After all, we saw an explosion of senior communities as the Greatest Generation retired. Even today, assisted living and nursing homes pop up like weeds. All the options are there…or are they?

A new “Old” trend is taking place. Mom and Dad are coming back home…that is…home to you.

The good news is that it’s easier than ever to be prepared. Whether you planned for this or not, making sure your home’s a safe haven, without giving up style, is easily accomplished.

The trend’s in motion and…will continue to grow

Before the concept of senior housing and communities became common, our elderly had no choice but to move in with relatives. In the 1970’s, the first assisted living facility changed senior housing completely. Now there’s an endless variety of options available – as long as residents can afford them.

And that’s the problem…

These options get expensive. Back in 2012, Seniorhomes.com showed the average cost of assisted living nationwide was $3,550…over $42,000 a year! It’s done nothing but rise since then.

The burden increases with longer life spans. US News reports 75 year-olds can expect to live another 11- 13 years.

However, the cost of making a few adjustments, even some re-modeling, can be significantly less!

Multigenerational family living – the new savings tool

The 2008 housing crisis brought many families together…literally. Yet the improvement in the economy didn’t diminish the number of homes with more than one generation. In fact, it’s growing…

Trulia, a real estate web site – shows an increase of seniors living with relatives in the past 20 years.

The American Institute of Architects surveyed over 500 residential firms. The results show a 13% increase from 2012 to 2014 for dedicated rooms, including in-law suites.

‘Home modification’ is becoming a new buzz phrase, and I help people modify with style.
